Lancashire Telegraph - Goths attacked by terror gang (22nd October, 2007)
Alterophobia - Attack on four goth/mosher teens in Burnley (21st of October, 2007)
Short Summary: Three boys and a girl (15 years old at the time) were chased and attacked, with sticks and bottles, by a group of around 12 youngsters, due to their gothic style of dress. This happened in Burnley. The Police said the attacked could've been much more serious if they hadn't been saved by a passer-by. Two of the victims were taken to the hospital but got out the same day. They suffered mostly cuts and bruises but one of the boys had to have his arm put in a sling. The Police believed the attack was due to the group's appearence, with a Detective Inspector saying "I honestly believe these people had done nothing more than walk down the street minding their own business, and just because they look different to the general population of that area they have been set upon. I believe these people have been targeted because of the way they dressed and the way they looked.". This attack happened two months after the death of Sophie Lancaster and the attack on Robert Maltby (post coming soon), which happened nearby. People from the alternative community were interviewed at the time, with one saying "We heard about what happened in Bacup and that has frightened us all. We have all had comments and things like that but it is frightening that this has now happened in Burnley.". The Alterophobia blog also notes that in (now deleted) comments on the Lancashire Telegraph article, there was a mention about another attack, against a couple of alternative teens. The blog also mentions that there has been suggestions that this spate of attacks might be related to another article by the Lancashire Telegraph, where shopkeepers claimed that alternative teens where intimidating buyers (post coming soon).
